This is not a April fools day’ joke – there is fine dining in Vantaa. Vantaa is not often referred to as the food heaven of Finland and many think that are not that many good restaurants in the City if any. This blog is to show you otherwise. I have already found many really great restaurants in Vantaa that make and serve great food and have passion in what they do. That passion always shows on the plate and you can feel it when you walk into the restaurant. April’s restaurant Gui, located at the Hilton Helsinki Airport hotel, makes no exception. We tested their lunch after which I was really sorry that I didn’t have time to stay for dinner as well.
The hotel is located right next to Helsinki Airport which makes it easy for its guest to pop in for lunch and dinner, or drinks. You can’t really tell what to expect because of the buildings blue mirror facade. Fear not, it’s worth the visit. Hotels now a days are looking for new clientele and we should not be affraid to dine at the hotels restaurants because you might miss out on something extraordinary like Gui. The stylish restaurant is located on ground floor behind the reception and can seat up to 170 guests.
Gui has an international kitchen with a nordic twist. They use ingredients that are new to some but familiar to Finland and the Nordics. One good example of this is the Scandinavian Sashimi in which they use pike-perch. They also have specialities like pine mayonase and cabbage sallad, because cabbage is really common and widely used in Finland. You get a taste of the country even if you don’t have a lot of time to spend at the destination. The menu changes four times a year and it is always a combination of the seasons ingredients.
There were four of us at lunch that day and we all ordered something different. They all looked and tasted beautiful. I chose the Grilled greens with Salmon. Loved the different textures and flavours that complimented each other very well.

You can order the Grilled greens also with chicken breast.
The Hilton Burger is one of the most popular dishes and no wonder, just look how delicious it looks. It has a 200g organic hamburger and the bun is from a local bakery. If you have the chance to try the a’la carte menu’ you’ll find a reindeer meat version of the burger also. The a’la carte menu is really high quality – fine dining. I’d go for the Scandinavian menu, what about you? Here’s the menu a’la carte
Unfortunately this photo of my gorgeous dessert is a bit blurry, but I’m sure you’ll believe me when I tell you it was heavenly! Luckily you’ll be able to find beautiful photos of this dish and others served at Gui from their very own Sous Chef: Mikeal Mihailov Instagram account. Follow him!
The restaurant welcomes everyone and they have dishes to meat everyones diatery needs. I recommend Gui for holidaymakers, people wanting to have a nice meal before their flight in a nice atmosphere, where the food really good and service too.
